Young Members Committee activities in the AIAA attempt to provide a very
dynamic and responsive outlet for young (under 32) aerospace professionals
to shape their own programs. The aerospace industry and the technical
industries in general are changing so rapidly right now that without a young
members program, it would be very difficult for the AIAA to remain in tune
with the new recruits. While the programs of the Young Members Committee
are geared towards the younger professionals, the committee is always in
need of more experienced members to act in the role of mentor, and their
participation is encouraged.
If you are a young member, or a member in general with interesting ideas for
young members, this committee would like to hear from you.
- Fermented Fluid Mechanics Forum: An interesting
informal technical forum (Imagine what it might have been like to discuss
your favorite moon-landing ideas with Wernher von Braun over a half liter of
Spaten at a pleasant cafe). Check the Section
Calendar for the latest forum.
- Edison Network: a new network for Bay Area
technical entrepreneurs. If you have the 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration
required to be an inventor, take a shower and then come visit the Edison Network.
Young Members Committee
The local Young Members Committee (YMC) is ALWAYS looking for new ideas from
the best and the brightest aerospace professionals. In fact, a nutty young
member once proposed that the AIAA sponsor a space-related rock and roll
audio-visual extravaganza and was almost taken seriously! Every idea is at
least considered, so if you have some interesting programs you might like to
see, let us know! The preferred method of communication is by email, of
course, but the old fashioned telephone or (GASP!) the regular mail will do in
a pinch.
