From Gano,
9/7/1999 AIAA SF Section Council Meeting
Following council members were present: Steve Jaeger, Seth Kurasaki, Kay Jain, Dan Stuart, Juanita Ryan, Roger Martinez, Corwin Lakin and Gano Chatterji.Steve got the pizza and asked to be reminded that 45 minutes is not enough time to pick up pizza. He then proceeded to introduce the new council. Juanita talked about her involvement with the AIAA national committee on Celebrating the Evolution of Flight and handed a brochure that describes this centennial event. She suggested that we should try to select a local ambassador for the class of 2003 ambassador program.
Corky suggested that we should ask Chung Park for automated web based registration for AIAA dinner meetings. The latest schedules are on the web. Juanita gave him a picture of the Loral visit to which he said he would scan it and put it on the web. Juanita said that Norm wanted to show up and talk to the folks about support, to which Steve remarked that there was some confusion to date, place and time.
September dinner meeting will be held on the 15th at Biltmore Hotel and Rick Serrano will be the featured speaker. It was felt that $25 for this dinner meeting is a bit steep. The October meeting will be held at Wyndham Garden on October 21st and Dr. Dallas Denery will be the featured speaker. Gano said he would get the bio of Dallas and an abstract of his talk to Roger and to Corky for possible inclusion on our web page. There was talk of November and December dinner meetings also.
Steve talked about email cordiality. When Juanita asked Steve if we had to contribute for pizza, Steve remarked, that would be nice since we do not have any money in the account. Seth explained that the money that we have is in a savings account and breaking the terms to withdraw would lead to a loss of interest. Steve suggested that we would get membership money (CAT III) in October.
Use of NASA wide email, Lockheed mail, Loral mail etc., for AIAA section announcements was discussed. Steve is going to pursue this. He said, he needs to talk to the bigwigs for their support and access to the communication channels.
Gano talked about arranging technical meetings with a local focus. These meetings will have a technical component along with product demonstration. Clearly, all the companies that employ our council members are marked targets for this purpose. Juanita suggested talking to Gary Chesney for a possible seminar. Seth said do not have one in January. We also talked about electronic version of the newsletter. Some other sections are already exploring the idea.
