Present: Steve, Matt, Seth, Dan, Rick, Mike, Morgan, Norm, Kay

-Consumed a vegi and a pepperoni pizza from Tony and Alba's...mmmmmm tasty!

-announced death of Pat Ryan. Signed sympathy card.
-Acknowledged Award winners:
National First Place Communication Award: Corky Lakin, Mike Etz, Steve Jaeger
National First Place Pre-college Outreach Award: Jaunita Ryan
-Steve reported on RAC meeting.
-Steve reveiewed presentation he did for Stanford AIAA
-Announced Norm Bergrun's campaign for Regional Director
-Mentioned Moffett Explorer Scout Post/International Scout Center problem
(ACTION ITEM: Steve and Seth get together and discuss scout issues.)

-Mentioned impending death of Italian sister section program
-Mentioned Ames 60th anniversary celebration and how we should at least acknowledge the event


Committee Reports

-Career (Kay)
Kay is busily updating resume links
(ACTION ITEM: Corky meets with Kay to discuss web site.)

-Young Professionals (Matt)
Matt has ambitious plans for young professionals. Dragging in Mike and Morgan, the youngest members of our council.
Suggested reinstating the Young Professional/Fellows Dinner
(ACTION ITEM: Matt drafts letter to send to muckety-mucks. Or was that MY action item? Well either way.)

-Evolution of Flight (Steve)
Starting interviews with "senior" members
We should do something with a local angle
Suggested a possible documentary in league with a local TV station

-Dinner programs (Roger)
Roger not present
November meeting - Liz Figuero
December - Doug O'Handley, Mars Lander
January - Mel Bulman, Aerojet. Meeting ot be held at El Torito in Jack London Square. Corky arranging dinner for 7PM. Possible easy train trip for Sacramento members and Silicon Vally members

possible use of CAT III funds for special programs

-Honors and awards (Srini)

-Membership (Dan)
Membership steady and strong at 1421.

-On-line (Corky)
Corky introduced Rick Kwan to council. Rick has already set up kick-ass on-line registration system.
Norm will look into credit card registration ideas.
(ACTION ITEM to ALL: Send in data for calendar section of web page
Corky suggested each committee director should take care of their own web page. Good opportunity for SV skills.
(ACTION ITEM to ALL: get password and instructions from Tsung-Chou to get on web page.)
(ACTION ITEM to ALL: meet with Corky and friends. Eat tacos, discuss web pages.)


-Meeting interupted for special Dog and Pony from Demoz Gebre about November 5th forum planned by Stanford students. Invited CEO of WorldSpace, a GEO satellite company that will provide TV and communicatons on L-Band to underserved areas of the World like S. America and Africa. Interesting and controversial subject because of battles over frequency allocation. (Possible by-line: SPECTRUM WARS)
Discussed areas for our involvement. Support: no more than $500. Set up table for AIAA. Push for membership. SHORT TIMELINE!!

-Newsletter(Mike)
digital camera worked in Siam except for bogus batteries.
Mike hinted strongly that he would like to hand over the newsletter responsibilities to someone else, like Morgan, sometime within the next 1000 years.

-Finance (Seth)
"Show me the money!"
(ACTION ITEM: Get Signature authority for Matt. Completed last week.)

-Public policy (Roger, Norm)
Congressional Visits Day was huge success last year. They are offering up $1000 for each section to send representatives. Lets do it again. We could send Morgan. Education a big issue.
Asian Satellite forum? Norm suggested several names for contacts to try to get somethjing rolling.
