Several members of the council were attending the AIAA Aerospace
Sciences Meeting in Reno.
Old Business
- Approve minutes from previous meeting.
New Business
Banquet discussion
- Discussion about banquet bills. Todd sent out a prelim
report showing our net loss of $7500.
Attendance:
Paid 159
Sponsored 30
Comp'd 54 (Hiller 33, band 7, vip's 5, a/v crew 9)
Total Attendance: 243
Revenue:
159 paid attendees x $75 = $11925
2 cocktail hr only x $25 = $50
Lockheed sponsorship = $2500
AGI sponsorship = $1500
Total revenue = $15,975
Expenses:
Catering: $20595
Wine: $987
Hotel: $1859
Total expenses = $23,441
Net loss = $7466
- From this report, Todd forgot to include $1500 of Centennial of
Flight AIAA National funds.
- We need to talk to Laura Shawnee and Trish about catering
contract. We thought we would be charged $60/head and ended up charging
us $85/head. We need to get a copy of the original contract.
Unfortunately, Todd has already paid the caterers but we should still
talk to the caterer about the bill.
- We also need to talk to Laura and Trish about the comps
dinners. What arrangement did they have with the comps? We were never
asked if we could pay for the comp dinners of 54. We need to see if
they had collected any funds for the comps or what arrangements they
had.
Programs Committee
- Jan 22 will be talk by Larry Rinek which is confirmed.
Prasad will be sending out a reminder to Rick and Corky
- Ken Billman from Lockheed will speak on Feb 26 also at the
Ramada. We dont have any contract with Ramada Inn. They dont need a
contract.
- We talked about other future speakers. Suggestions: Nathalie
Cabralie, Frank Drake, Mike Green, Stan Horowitz, UAV, Air Traffic
Management , Allen Flynt, CAIB, Space Systems Loral, Dave Levinson,
Lawrence Livermore
Public Policy Committee
- Todd talked about the grass roots effort. Public policy is
one of the top 5 policies and being addressed at Reno. Its really
getting a lot more visibility. Mike has assistant of Steve Howell who
comes from the Space and Aeronautics committee. Corinne Contante has
assistant role in their office.
Young Professional Committee
- FFMF to be held next Wed on 251 Castro. George Abel will
be speaking. He worked on atom bomb as nuclear engineer. Joint
sponsorship with SAME. Also invited some folks from ASME.
- We suggested to hold a mixer for Stanford students. Eric will
try and organize something for the students. They currently dont have a
AIAA student chapter.
Region Director at Large
- Norm sent a message out to Andrew S. in charge of
communications. Norm wanted to see what he was doing in
communicationis. He didnt get a response back. Norm will then contact
the Deputy Director of our region and see if he gets a response. If the
Deputy Directors dont take charge of public policy, then grass roots
effort is not going to be heard and thats why its died off for now.
