Council Meeting Minutes - February 1, 2000

Ate pizza.
Introduced council to new member, Larry Chien.
Steve asked if people were happy with their committees or wanted to change
around, need help etc.
Reviewed Reno meeting, RAC VI meeting
Steve announced that the Moffett Explorer Post issue was being deferred to the
CA Air Reserve Wing.
Education (Matt)
-ACTION ITEM: establish EUROAVIA Email tree
Howard talked to Stanford. Got interested people. Cool ideas. Two volunteers.
-ACTION ITEM: establish exploratory committee:
Temp position: initiate web page, details, Contact with multi-national companies
in US, Send students to fly-ins, dates for European events etc. Contact AIAA
national, company contacts. Publish events in NL. (EUROAVIA liaison position
already exists. Need to fill.)
-EUROAVIA wants teleconferences Šneed something to talk about like exchange of
journals, public, periodic email. (Steve not sure EUROAVIA students understood
how our council works.)
-ACTION ITEM: Put ad in NL to cast out line.
Public Policy:
- only 6 sections registered for CVD money (Roger)
- colloquium Feb 12th Morgan will attend.
-(norm) Legislative alerts - nothing happens. WHOM DO THEY SEND IT TO? Do they
want to continue this. Want to have them if they are done right. Need to ask for
something specific and target the right districts.
-Career enhancement (RICK? Everyone)
Need to take old resumes off. ACTION ITEM (for Steve): contact Kay. ACTION ITEM:
Rick removes stale links.
-Newsletter (Mike)
Deadline: early because Morgan has been gone. In Morgan's lap. ACTION : call up
Scott Miller or Roger to get speaker info.
-Nomination committee (Matt)
Refer to Norm. Nomination comm. Could include people like Brian Haas, Glen,
Steve, Gano. Etc.
Need to mail out ballot or miss deadline ACTION: call for nominations on web
site, NL, e-mail
-Dinner Programs (Roger)
January meeting very successful. Many students, Lunar eclipse. Mel Bulman
presentation going on web site. Make East Bay meeting an annual event ?
- IEEE Joint meeting. Over 110 attending for Klineberg
Feb meeting: Pascal Lee, Mars on Earth. sign up !!
ACTION ITEM (for Steve):Direct Scott miller to Roger
Need Feedback from members. ACTION ITEM: Roger create evaluation form.
-Honors and Awards (Srini)
ACTION: Check on status of Galileo scholarships.
Srini will be getting Special Service Citation in March. (Will be official when
Steve receive award from National)
-Council decision: Keep Engineer of the Year award for Engineers
-On-line (Corky)
Corky says "PUT IT UP!!" meaning: if you have a page put it on the
server.
Wants to get NL up on Website. ACTION ITEM: Pay Tsung-chou $600 for 12 months of
service. ACTION ITEM: talk to Glen Carl and find out where this charge came
from.
-Finance (Seth)
Mountain View post office is moving for one year.
-PO wants bulk rate qualification info ACTION ITEM: Steve meets with Gano to
compile info for Post Office audits.
ACTION ITEM: Corky wants by-laws on web site. Steve must find them.
-Budget: Slight positive keeping up with expenses. Made over $150 from January
dinner meeting.
Newsletters going over budget.
- ACTION ITEM: buy software for whoever wants it.
-Technical (Gano)
-flight planning seminar drew 50 people. Jeppesen even flew out someone from
Denver.
Seminar on patents and copyrights for Feb 16th. AMES' chief council. OPEN to
everyone
Can we do one at Lockheed plant in PA? What topics would be interesting? ACTION
ITEM: Larry and Rick scout around for places, ideas. ACTION: talk to TC members.

Would Datamaker software be useful. ACTION ITEM: Matt contact Karen ThomasŠ
-Evolution of Flight (Steve)
Seth Anderson agreed to interview in March
-Young Professionals (Matt): PROBLEM: Pockets booked for Friday
Change web site. Move to Mollys.
