About the Speaker

Prof. Bob Twiggs came to Stanford University in 1994 when he established the Space Systems Development Laboratory there. He promotes worldwide student education using student-built small satellites called CubeSats, which can be built from parts purchased at Radio Shack and other educational parts suppliers.

For 20 years prior to joining Stanford University, Professor Twiggs worked in the microwave device and software development industry. He was at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah during 1981--1994, serving as professor in Electronic Engineering Technology and Director of the Center for Aerospace Technology. During that time, the Center for Aerospace Technology teamed with other institutions to build and launch the NUSAT~1 satellite (launched by space shuttle Challenger in 1985) and the WEBERSAT satellite (launched by Ariane IV in 1990).
