Vandenberg Air Force Base is headquarters for the 30th Space Wing. The 30th manages Department of Defense space and missile testing, and placing satellites into polar orbit from the West Coast, using expendable boosters. Vandenberg is located on California's "Central Coast". The 150 square-mile area between San Francisco and Los Angeles is surrounded by the Santa Ynez mountains, the Pacific, and ranches of northern Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
Corwin Lakin who worked for Lockheed on the base in the 60's invites you join him in attending the March scheduled tour.

Tour starts at 10:00 at main Gate. Please be there at 9:30
No walk-ons are accepted the day of the tour.

Coming from the North on Highway 101
Take the Betteravia Exit in Santa Maria and turn right on Betteravia.
Turn left onto Hwy 135 at Broadway Ave. As you leave town, Highway 1 merges with
Highway 135.
Travel about 1.5 miles further and follow Highway 1 as it exits to the right.
After about 10 miles, you will see Vandenberg's main gate straight ahead, after
the traffic light.
