Introduction

The Career Enhancement Committee activities will often coordinate with other SF Section committees and assist with the development of a wide variety of activities. Some of the best ways to improve your career and the local aerospace career outlook is to get involved and network at AIAA activities.

The following is a reference to Why Are Career Enhancement Programs Important? from the AIAA "Career Enhancement Chairperson's Guide":

There are obvious reasons for and benefits of joining and participating in a professional society. Many benefits are difficult to quantify, such as career enhancement. But certainly, the small dues investment will more than repay a member when the activities of their society assist in enhancing professional and personal growth, developing a new business opportunity, solving a difficult problem, or locating the perfect job.

Often times the professional does not take the time to think about his or her career. Professionals are so busy taking care of their day to day responsibilities, that their careers just happen.

Career Enhancement is not unlike "thinking through" any important business problem. One must define objectives, develop strategies, monitor progress and take corrective action when and if necessary. Once many business problems are solved, they often remain that way, whereas career enhancement is a continuous process requiring periodic reassessment and updates. Particularly since organizational structures, rates of progression, fortunes of one's employer, or family responsibilities shift unexpectedly as time goes on.

For these reasons, it is essential that engineering professionals (especially today) be exposed to programs and activities that will provide the necessary information to make informed decisions about their careers.
